Caroline Plant, BA, LLB, Accredited Family Law Mediator, COLLABORATIVE PRACTITIONER
My goal is to help clients find the perspective, confidence, and communication skills they need to negotiate solutions to their family law problems. I am skilled at framing win-win solutions for my clients and the family system their wellbeing is often tied to.
I strive to bring warmth, relatability and levity to my work as a family and estate planning lawyer. I am passionate about minimizing stress and conflict for everyone on the team. Death, divorce, and other big family transitions are among the most challenging and transformative human experiences: I am sincerely grateful for the opportunity to support my clients to shape stories that will support them on the path forward.
The cost of legal services can be a significant barrier to a resolution. I am realistic and transparent about that component of our work together. I look for opportunities to delegate non-legal issues to other professionals and take a pragmatic approach to supporting clients to move forward in a good way as their family systems are shifting.
I am a trained collaborative lawyer, peace circle facilitator, and mediator and have been practicing family and estate law for more than 10 years. Above all, I want our work together to contribute to launching you into an interesting and positive new chapter of your life.

MIrYam Burns, BA, JD
Family takes many forms. In times of transition, when your family is beginning, changing, separating, or welcoming a new member, my job is to support you to find practical, workable solutions within our legal system, with as little stress as possible. I guide clients toward creative arrangements that suit them and their families, whatever shape they take.
I have experience with families of all kinds, including queer, trans, and multi-parent partnerships, and I am familiar with the particular needs of families who live outside the norm. I am passionate about working with each family on their own terms to create the structures and supports they need to thrive.
Family transitions, whether dreaded or longed-for, can be periods of uncertainty. It is my goal to help you move through them gracefully and prepare for whatever comes next.
SAMIRA POURGHANAD, BA, JD, MA
I believe that the foundation of every lawyer’s practice rests upon the timeless art of problem solving, and this is my ultimate objective for my clients: to identify and resolve your problems, effectively and efficiently. Whether you are seeking assistance on family law matters or issues pertaining to wills and estates, I take my obligations as your advocate very seriously, regardless of the length or complexity of the case. Throughout the process, I will work to ensure that my clients feel comfortable, supported, and well-informed about their legal rights and options.
The medieval poet, Rumi, wrote: “Life is a balance between holding on and letting go.” Making decisions that maintain this delicate balance are a typical aspect of family and estate matters. As it can be stressful, my aim is to help you navigate these waters with as much calmness and tranquility as possible. I am also highly passionate about access to legal resources and will endeavour to bring your matter to a close with cost-effective ideas always in mind. Outside the office, I can be found playing the piano (well) and guitar (less well). I am happy to provide legal services in English and Farsi.
